Alu-posto or Potato with poppy seeds is a traditional Bengali recipe which is made with potato, poppy seeds or posto, onion and spices.

Preparation

  1. At first, cut potato into cubes and slice onion thinly.

  2. Soak the poppy seeds in hot water for 30 minutes.

  3. Then drain the water and make a smooth paste in a mixer grinder.

Making Aloo Posto

  1. Now heat oil in a pan and add black Cumin seeds, chopped onion & green chilies.

  2. When it sizzles, add Potato pieces & salt. Fry on the low flame until it turns golden .

  3. Then add poppy seeds paste and cook for 5 minutes on low flame.

  4. Now add a cup of water and mix well.

  5. Cover the pan with a lid and cook until it becomes tender.

  6. When water is completely dried out, add ½ tsp mustard oil at the top and mix well. Cook for another 2 secs.

  7. Now Alu-posto is ready to serve with steamed rice. Enjoy!
