Doi Katla is an authentic recipe in Bengali cuisine which is prepared with Katla fish, curd and spices.



Off On


  1. At first, marinate fish pieces with turmeric powder, salt and Keep it aside.

  2. Make a smooth paste with ½ onion, ginger, little water and keep it aside.

  3. Then make a smooth paste with tomato and keep it aside.

Making Doi Katla

  1. Now heat oil in a deep pan and fry marinated fish pieces until it turns golden. Remove and keep it aside.

  2. Then add bay leaf, dry red chili, cinnamon stick, green cardamom, cloves, whole pepper in the remaining oil. Fry for 2 sec.

  3. Now add chopped onion and green chili. Fry until onion turns golden.

  4. Then add onion-ginger paste and fry for 2 min on the low flame.

  5. Now add tomato paste and fry for 2 min again.

  6. Then add salt, turmeric powder, cumin powder, red chili powder, garam masala powder. Mix well and fry for 2 min.

  7. Now add curd and mix well. Cook for 2 min on low flame.

  8. Then add water and mix well with the masala.

  9. When water starts boiling, add fried fish pieces. Cover the pan with a lid and cook on the medium flame until the gravy turns thick.

  10. Now Doi Katla is ready to serve. Serve with steamed rice. Enjoy!
